Flatfoot is a description of foot position using the medial archas a reference point.
Causes
- Inherited structural flatfoot
- May be an insufficiency of ligaments or ligamentous strength
- May be an articulation genetic mal-placement
- May be abnormal placement or weakness of the posterior tibial tendon or insertion
- Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction
- The tendon normally inserts into the medial navicularsupporting the talar headand thus supporting the medial archof the foot
