Exercise physiology is the branch of physiologythat studies how the body adapts to physical movement. It is believed to have originated in ancient Greeceby Herodicus.
Topics studied in exercise physiology include human energy transfer, human energy expenditure, evaluation of energy-generating capacities, the pulmonary system, the cardiovascular system, the neuromuscular system, hormones, training methods, environmental effects on physiology, and ergogenic aids.
Exercise physiology is a branch of exercise science, where individuals have specialised into either health and fitness or exercise rehabilitation streams. As knowledge in the area of physical conditioning and rehabilitation has increased, the evolution of specialists in various fields have become apparent.
