Developmental milestones

Developmental milestones are tasks most children can perform at certain ages. For example:

  • Ability to lift and control the orientation of the head
  • Crawlingbegins
  • Walkingbegins
  • Speechbegins
  • Voicelowers in pitch (especially noticeable in boys)
  • Pubic hairappears
  • Genitalsand reproductive organs mature
  • Mensesbegin (females)
  • body hairand facial hairappears

Note: the Tanner stagescan be used to approximately judge a child's age based on physical development.
