Squamous metaplasia refers to benign(non-cancerous) changes in the epitheliallinings of certain organswithin the body. These cells assume a more squamousmorphology. Common sites for squamous metaplasia include the bladderand cervix. Smokers often exhibit squamous metaplasia in the linings of their airways.
