Triple test
The triple test is an investigation performed during pregnancy(usually the second trimester). It measures the following three levels:
- alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)
- human chorionic gonadotropin(hCG)
- unconjugated estriol(UE3)
The term "quadruple test" or "quad test" is sometimes used to refer to the above three tests plus a test for dimeric inhibinA (DIA).
The test is for screening, not for diagnosis, and does not have nearly the same predictive power of amniocentesisor chorionic villus sampling. However, the screening tests carry much lower risks.
