A black eye is an eye injuryand the name given to bruisingaround the eye. It is a common result of injury to the face. The name is given due to the colour of bruising and blood entering the eye cavity. Most black eye injuries are minor and will heal themselves in a matter of 6 days.

An occurring black eye isn't usually associated with injury to the actual eye. The effect of it is especially bigger, because of the different characteristics of skin around the eye.
