University of Medicine and Health Sciences (St. Kitts)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The University of Medicine and Health Sciences, often referred to as UMHS is a for-profit university founded by Dr. Robert Ross, the founder and former owner of Ross University, offering a traditional four year program in medicine on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. It will open its doors in May 2008 on its campus west of the city of Basseterre. The government of St. Kitts will be contacting the World Health Organization and International Medical Education Directory (IMED) to obtain the proper listings so that graduates could qualify for licensure in the United States. The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has granted the University of Medicine and Health Sciences of St. Kitts the authority to confer on graduates who have successfully completed the University’s prescribed course of matriculation, the degree of Doctor of Medicine. The University and the degrees that the University confers will be recognized and accepted by the Saint Kitts and Nevis government, provided that the curriculum conforms to the standards of the St. Kitts and Nevis Accreditation Board. The charter granting the right to confer these degrees was signed on August 24, 2007.http://www.cuopm.com/newsitem.asp?articlenumber=1406
