(or the adjective for that concept). To anger-management groups, a "rageaholic" can be a person addicted to expressing rage (or an "anger addict"), afflicted with a psychological addiction to continual fits of rage. There are 12-step programs for dealing with rageaholics, such as with Rageaholics Anonymous in Los Angeles, CA. Origin of term rageaholic
The word rageaholic is patterned after "alcoholic" and "workaholic" or similar names, and the condition is called "rageaholism" (as in "alcoholism").
The term rageaholic is relatively rare compared to the older term "alcoholic": whereas 27 major online dictionaries on the Internet define alcoholic, few define "rageaholic" at all.

Rageaholics can be very dangerous
Unlike the predictable nature of alcoholism, fits of a rageaholic are difficult to predict. There is no obvious bottle of scotch or bottle of tequila along a California highway. Instead of some warning sign (such as continued drinking), at any given minute on any day, a rageaholic can fly into an almost unlimited fit of endless rage, tearing down curtains, pulling "For Sale" signs out of gardens and even ripping down TV dishes with unbelieveable vicious behavior. Also, little is known about the range of potential triggers: for example, if extra sleep were to cause a rageaholic to express greater hostility, or if drinking/eating particular foods were to trigger more violent behavior, little is known, as to which people might react more violently. A one-hour nap might have little effect; however, several hours of sleep might generate a horrific, vicious tantrum in some people, but the details are just not fully understood. There is also a category of alcoholic rageaholics, who are addicted to both alcohol and fits of rage. However, a rageaholic can wake up from a long, healthy period of rest, seeming to be perfectly content, and then instantly fly into a violent, hateful, endless tirade of vicious abuse and disgusting hatefulness, without drinking a single drop. Potential triggers of rage
The Rageaholics Anonymous chapter in Los Angeles, CA (compare with Alcoholics Anonymous), warns of several potential triggers for people who want to control their own tendency toward growing fits of rage:
adapted from Newton Hightower's Anger Busting 101.
Once an alcoholic takes that first drink, their chances of getting drunk increase exponentially. Once a rageaholic expresses their anger, their chances of throwing a tantrum also increase exponentially. Rageaholics Anonymous advises, "Abstaining completely from acting on anger is the only answer for a rageaholic." The following are things that can be done right now to avoid expressing the anger and opening the door to another rageaholic episode.Next Page
