Presentation
Normally, the dorsal duct regresses as it fuses with the ventral duct, resulting in the duct of Wirsung draining from the major papilla. In some cases, the remaining duct of Santorini will drain from the minor papilla, but this duct can atrophy. Prognosis
Most patients are asymptomatic and there is no functional significance to the defect. However, it can result in recurrent pancreatitis in a very small number of patients. An association with adenoma of the minor papilla has been reported.
