Oligomenorrhea can also be a result of prolactinomas (adenomas of the anterior pituitary). May also be caused by thyrotoxicosis and Graves disease. (The medical term for a total cessation of the menstrual period is amenorrhea while unusually heavy periods are called menorrhagia)
