Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease is a subacute necrotizing lymphadenitis, most common in Asia, but seen worldwide. More common in women presenting with lymphadenitis in the neck with sore throat, weight loss, chills, muscle pain (myalgias), pain in the joints (arthralgias), enlarged spleen, and skin rash. Usually spontaneously resolves within a couple weeks or months. Recurrence is rare and death is rare.The cause of this disease is still unknown. There is speculation that there may be linkage to a viral agent and/or an autoimmune problem. Symptoms beyond swollen lymph glands are usually atypical of the disease manifestation. Most cases go undiagnosed due to a lack of symptom severity. The disease can be diagnosed through lymph node biopsy or needle biopsy if the disease is suspected.
