James Guarrera

James V. Guarrera, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and an Assistant Attending Surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Guarrera was a key member in developing a novel technique of machine preservation of donor livers for transplantation, and in 2004 was part of the world's first team to successfully transplant a machine-perfused liver into a human (ISOP 2004). Today, Dr. Guarrera is acknowledged as an expert in organ preservation.

Dr. Guarrera serves as referee for the two major transplant journals and has authored or co-authored 15 scientific papers as well as presented at many national and international meetings.
