Hypopigmentation

Hypopigmentation is the loss of skin color. It is caused by melanocyte depletion — a decrease in the amino acid tyrosine, which is used by melanocytes to make melanin.

Associated conditions

It is seen in:
  • pityriasis alba
  • vitiligo
  • leprosy
  • albinism
  • idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis
