The Fox Chase Cancer Center is a medical research facility and hospital located in the northeast section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The Center is an independent, non-profit institution which specializes in the treatment and prevention of cancer.

History

The Center was founded as the American Oncologic Hospital in 1904 as the first United States hospital founded for the treatment of cancer. The center gained its current name in 1974 when the American Oncologic Hospital merged with the Institute for Cancer Research, founded in 1927. Also in 1974, the National Cancer Institute named the Center one of the United States' first comprehensive cancer centers.
