From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Daniel G. Davis, DO is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY and the Surgical Director of the Center for Obesity Surgery at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. Dr. Davis is a leading researcher of laparoscopic bariatric surgery and minimally invasive treatment of gastrointestinal disease (CS JJSS 2004). Currently, Dr. Davis is one of the principal investigators of a study to determine the safety and effectiveness of Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB), also known as Lap Band®, in less obese patients who might not usually qualify for obesity surgery (CS Research 2004). In a Lap Band surgery, neither the stomach nor intestine is cut, making it one of the least invasive obesity procedures. It is ideal for the millions of people who do not qualify as obese, yet are heavy enough to have the medical risks of obesity. Dr. Davis’ research will hopefully expand past a trial phase and get insurance companies to realize that Lap Band is a safe and effective therapy for overweight patients (CS Research 2004).
